Lantania sets up a Desalination Department led by Pedro Almagro

  •  The new Group executive will be a member of the Steering Committee, reporting directly to the CEO

Madrid, 17th December 2021. Lantania appoints Pedro Almagro as general director of Desalination. The executive will be a member of the Steering Committee and will report directly to the CEO of the Infrastructure, Water and Energy Group, Federico Ávila. Almagro has over 15 years’ experience in the water business and will be tasked with promoting the Desalination area, recently created by the company.

An Industrial Technical Engineer by profession, Pedro Almagro has forged a career for himself at Abengoa, where he joined in 1998 as an intern. In 2004, he took over the management of the international offerings department, initiating the international expansion of the water business. Three years later he was appointed director of Abengoa Water China, a position he held until 2014, during which time he developed the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project for the Qingdao desalination plant. After his time in China, he went on to lead the water business in the United States for Abengoa as general director, winning the water supply contract for the city of San Antonio, Texas. Since January 2019, with the unification of the water and energy divisions of the Andalusian company, he has been in charge of the contracting area of Abengoa Water and Energy.

“Pedro has extensive experience in international business and a long career in the water sector. A background that makes him the right person to lead Lantania’s desalination business. I am confident that he will be successful,” said Lantania’s president and CEO, Federico Ávila.

Almagro comes to the company to manage Desalination, a new business area in which the company expects to achieve strong growth in the coming years. “I am very excited to join the Lantania team, made up of very good professionals with whom I am convinced we will achieve great milestones”, said Lantania’s general director of Desalination.

The incorporation of Almagro is another step in the strong strategic commitment that Lantania is making to the water sector, and adds to the acquisitions made last year within the water area of Grupo Soil and the company Deisa, both focused on projects and solutions in the industrial field.
