The name change formalises its integration into the structure of NMDC Group, strengthening its competittiveness and positioining in the international water market
Madrid, 22 October 2026. Lantania Aguas has changed its name to NMDC Lantania Water. The change marks the completion of the partnership established following the acquisition by NMDC Infra, a subsidiary of NMDC Group, of a 51% stake in the company, while Lantania Group retains the remaining 49%. The new entity combines the financial strength and global scale of the Emirati group with Lantania’s expertise and track record in the integrated water cycle.
NMDC Lantania Water begins this new chapter with a multidisciplinary team of more than 300 professionals and a portfolio of projects under execution worth more than €450 million. The company will retain its headquarters in Seville, Spain, as well as its current management team, led by Pedro Almagro as CEO. The company has also established a permanent office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which will serve as a regional hub to drive its expansion across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.
According to Pedro Almagro, CEO of NMDC Lantania Water, “this name change reflects a new chapter in which we bring together the capabilities, scale and expertise of two complementary groups. Lantania’s experience in the development and delivery of water projects is combined with NMDC Group’s technical capabilities and international presence, enabling us to strengthen our position and undertake larger and more complex projects in new markets. We approach this new phase with the ambition of becoming a leading global player in the water sector, with a clear commitment to contributing to water security through efficient, technologically advanced and responsible solutions”.
An international leader in desalination and water treatment
The new company’s technical capabilities are reflected in its portfolio of projects currently under construction, including internationally recognised developments such as the Fujairah reverse osmosis desalination plant in the United Arab Emirates, with a capacity of 273,000 m³/day, and the Ras Mohaisen plant in Saudi Arabia, with a capacity of 300,000 m³/day, as well as the Hicha project in Tunisia.
According to the IDRA Desalination and Water Reuse Handbook 2025–2026, published by the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) in partnership with Global Water Intelligence (GWI), the company ranks fourth worldwide by awarded desalination capacity during the 2024–2025 period. In addition, NMDC Lantania Water has been shortlisted in the Desalination Company of the Year category at the prestigious Global Water Awards 2026.
