Lantania and the University of Seville constitute the Lantania Chair: Water Engineering and Technology

Madrid, 25 May 2026. Lantania and the University of Seville have created the Lantania Chair: Water Engineering and Technology, a strategic initiative designed to drive innovation, applied research, and technological development in the water sector. This chair aims to generate advanced and sustainable solutions, promote knowledge transfer, and train highly specialized talent capable of addressing the water challenges of the future.

The CEO of Lantania Aguas, Pedro Almagro, and the Rector of the University of Seville, Carmen Vargas, signed the agreement yesterday that initiates this collaboration, positioning it as a benchmark in innovation and technological transformation within the water sector.

The Chair will develop a range of academic, training, and research activities, including R&D projects, specialized courses, as well as outreach activities and professional meetings. These initiatives will foster the exchange of knowledge among students, researchers, and companies, bringing university education closer to the real-world challenges of the water industry.

The Lantania Chair’s main objectives include promoting innovative solutions in water and wastewater treatment, optimizing hydraulic infrastructure, improving energy efficiency, implementing technological monitoring of water systems, and adapting to climate change. Furthermore, it plans to organize sector-specific forums and professional meetings to enrich both educational programs and knowledge transfer between the university and the business community.

The Chair is being developed in collaboration with the Higher Technical School of Engineering at the University of Seville and will be directed by José Morillo, Professor in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, with Rafael González, Professor in the Department of Energy Engineering, serving as secretary. On behalf of Lantania, it will be coordinated by Hicham El Bakouri, Head of R&D at Lantania Waters, who brings a strong connection to the university and a distinguished research background.

The CEO of Lantania Aguas stated that “the goal of this Chair is to train future generations of professionals, connecting the university with the real challenges of the water industry, so that Seville becomes an academic and technological leader in this sector.” Almagro also emphasized that “collaboration between business and academia is key to driving innovative solutions and developing the talent the sector needs.”

For her part, the Rector of the University of Seville highlighted the significance of launching this initiative, as it reflects one of the core objectives that define the “DNA” of public universities: contributing to knowledge and to the productive sector. According to Carmen Vargas, this collaboration is the result of a long-standing relationship built on mutual understanding, trust and shared goals.

The Rector also underscored the work carried out by the University of Seville’s Higher Technical School of Engineering and Lantania within the Sevilla Tech Park innovation ecosystem and emphasized the opportunities that this new chair will provide for students in terms of internships, research projects and mentoring programs. “Students are our future and our reason for being,” she stated.

The establishment of this Chair reflects Lantania’s commitment to knowledge as a driver of transformation and to strengthening alliances that contribute to addressing the challenges of the integrated water cycle.
