Lantania completes construction of the new Plasencia connection road

  • New road opened to traffic by the President of Extremadura

Madrid, 12 June 2024. Lantania has completed the construction of the new connection road in Plasencia (Cáceres) that connects the southern ring road with Avenida de España, called Avenida de la Universidad de Extremadura. The new road, awarded by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Housing of the Regional Government of Extremadura, which required an investment of around 6 million euros, was put into service today, Wednesday.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Extremadura, María Guardiola, the Regional Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Housing of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Manuel Martín Castizo, and the Mayor of Plasencia, Fernando Pizarro, who were accompanied by the Chairperson of Lantania, Federico Ávila, the company’s Civil Works delegate, Rubén Corral, and the works group manager for the southwest area, Javier Hurtado.

The company, in a joint venture with Excavaciones Justo Duque, has built a new 482-meter-long route with two lanes in each direction, a median, a bicycle lane and external pavements. It runs entirely on embankment, highlighting the construction of a viaduct that bridges the Niebla stream and Rambla de Santa Teresa street (or Malpartida road). The structure is 75 metres long and has two spans of 37.5 metres each.

This new road will facilitate links in and out of Plasencia and will allow for smoother traffic flow. It will improve mobility not only in the town of Jerte but also in the surrounding villages by connecting the Avenida de España with the southern ring road, which connects with the N-110, EX-203, EX-208 and the EX-A1, via the road to Malpartida de Plasencia.
