Lantania completes renovation works of the RACE Sports Club

Madrid, 26th July 2021. Lantania has completed the refurbishment, restoration and expansion of the RACE Sports Club. The work carried out by architects Reyes Olea Rico and Héctor Barrio Domínguez, has unified the outside appearance of the club, balancing the overall appearance of its buildings so that they can be understood as a whole.

The RACE Sports Club was built in 1967 and is located in the Madrid town of San Sebastián de los Reyes. The works, which began at the end of 2019, have involved the refurbishment of the building, together with an extension of the constructed area to just over 7,500 square metres.

The infrastructure, water and energy group completed the works in two phases. In the first phase, the building was extended with the construction of a semi-basement for bicycles, maintenance rooms, water and geothermal installations and an electrical room with access to the outside. Over this semi-basement a walkable roof has been built with access to the building and covered parking spaces on top.

The second phase involved the refurbishment of the building’s three floors, redistributing the spaces in a more attractive way, giving priority of access, views and light to the most important areas, such as the cafeteria and restaurant, gym, living areas and chapel. In addition to this, spaces have been created such as the large fitness and physiotherapy centre, a large multi-purpose room that will house the chapel and provide new places for study and leisure. The back of the building houses the service spaces such as changing rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and waste storage area.
