Lantania completes work on the wastewater treatment plant in Nerja (Malaga)

  •  The company and the Ministry for Ecological Transition signed the work completion certificate last month

Madrid, 2nd November 2021. Lantania has announced completion of the construction works on the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Nerja, Malaga, and has delivered the project to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (“Reto Demográfico” in Spanish). The Infrastructure, water and energy group and the Ministry signed the work completion certificate on October 6th, once the testing phase of the installation was completed with positive results in terms of wastewater treatment and compliance with the applicable discharge requirements.

The Directorate-General of Water (DGA) is now responsible for the operation of the infrastructure until it is transferred to the Nerja City Council. The Nerja treatment plant is designed to treat a pollution load of up to 125,000 equivalent inhabitants. In addition, part of the water can be reused for quality urban uses and services or agricultural uses, and therefore it has a tertiary treatment.

The new facility is located in the Fuente del Badén stream and occupies an area of almost 29,000 square metres. The treatment plant is installed in a building integrated into its surroundings, with a building for the water line and another for the sludge line.

Lantania has been in charge of completing the works corresponding to the WWTP and the interceptor collectors, pumping stations and submarine outfall. The works carried out within the project are the construction of a WWTP for 25,000 cubic metres of wastewater per day, equivalent to a population of 125,000 inhabitants. Additionally, the improvement of the network of collectors and pumping stations to convey the wastewater to the WWTP and the construction of an outfall of treated water with a terrestrial and an underwater section.
