Lantania entrusted with the construction of the new wastewater treatment plant in Puigpelat (Tarragona)

  • 2.5 million euro contract awarded by the Catalan Water Agency

Madrid, 24 May 2022. Lantania will be building the new Puigpelat Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Tarragona. The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has granted the company a 2.5 million euro contract, including taxes, in a joint venture with Roma Infraestructuras, for the construction of the facility. It will enable the collection and treatment of wastewater generated in the municipality, which is found in the Alt Camp region, and provide the area with properly cleaned water.

The execution phase of the works is set to last 10 months, with a maximum period of 12 months for testing and a further 12 months for operation of the treatment plant during the warranty period. Lantania will be building a biological treatment plant with extended aeration for the elimination of organic matter and nutrients, with the capacity to treat 300m3 per day, an amount corresponding to a population of 1,500 inhabitants.

The treatment plant will treat wastewater generated in the town of Puigpelat and, in the future, in the towns of La Sínia and Els Arcs. It will discharge the treated water into the Torrent dels Caus (Francolí river basin). Thus, a new upper sewer (454 metres long) is planned from the last well of the existing lower sewer network and the sewer outlet of the WWTP to the discharge point in the Torrent dels Caus river, at 308 metres long.

The new WWTP will discharge into a sensitive area and, therefore, in terms of effluent quality requirements, the treated water must guarantee low pollution concentrations.
