The work, which is being carried out in a joint venture with Cleop, aims to return the ravine to its pre-flood state
Madrid, 29 May 2025. Lantania is making progress on the recovery works of the Barranco del Poyo in Valencia. The Infrastructure, Water and Energy Group is carrying out emergency works in a joint venture with Cleop, subcontracted by the latter, to restore the course of the Barranco del Poyo as it passes through the towns of Picaña and Paiporta, following the severe damage caused by the DANA on 29 October.
The Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, visited the works, accompanied by the President of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ), Miguel Polo, and the Government Delegate in Valencia, Pilar Bernabé. During the visit, they were able to see at first hand the progress being made.
The actions underway are aimed at restoring the ravine to its pre-flood state, over an extension of 3 kilometres; guaranteeing its drainage capacity and favouring its naturalisation through the construction of riprap walls. The project has a budget of 7.8 million euros and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2026.
Among the tasks already carried out are the removal of debris, clearing and conditioning of the bed of the riverbed, as well as the reprofiling of embankments. At present, riprap walls and blankets are being built, a common technique for protecting riverbanks, which allows the environment to be naturalised and guarantees the channel’s drainage capacity. Outside the main channel, the restoration of damaged roads and pavements is also planned, although some sections have yet to be defined.
