Lantania installs new pedestrian and cyclist walkway connecting Puente and Villa de Vallecas

• The project, a joint venture with Padecasa and Azul, is part of the work carried out for Madrid City Council under the Mobility Framework Agreement (Lot 2)

Madrid, 11 August 2025. Lantania has installed a new pedestrian and cyclist walkway linking the Puente de Vallecas and Villa de Vallecas districts in Madrid, overcoming the barrier posed by the M-40 motorway and enhancing mobility in the area. Spanning 100 metres, the new infrastructure is located in the Palomeras Sureste neighbourhood, an area previously isolated due to the motorway. This elevated walkway will also promote sustainable mobility by facilitating connection to Madrid’s Green Cycling Ring.

This project is part of the works carried out by the infrastructure, water and energy group in a joint venture with Padecasa and Azul under Lot 2 of the Madrid City Council’s Urban Mobility Infrastructure Framework Agreement.

The new walkway, constructed with high-strength structural steel, comprises two spans with a total length of 100 metres, a height of 3.55 metres and a width of 5.60 metres. Weighing 140 tonnes, the structure consists of two single pieces joined at the centre with a bolted system. Its installation required a controlled closure of the motorway, coordinated with the General Traffic Directorate to minimise disruption to mobility. The structure was lifted using two cranes, one with a 500-tonne capacity and another with a 400-tonne capacity. The walkway rests on three supports: two abutments with micropile foundations and a central metal pier installed in the M-40 median with direct foundation.

The project is part of the development of the South Campus, an initiative promoted by the Madrid City Council within the DEMO 360 Vallecas Area. It continues the sustainable development strategy initiated by Madrid Nuevo Norte, fostering zero-emission urban regeneration with new infrastructure, green spaces and enhanced mobility.
