Lantania launches a campaign to combat noise pollution on the A-66 dual carriageway in Asturias

  • The 10.8 million euro project includes the installation of noise protection screens and sound-absorbing road surfaces, among other measures

Madrid, 17 August 2023. Lantania has started work on the installation of noise screens on the A-66 dual carriageway, which passes through Mieres in Asturias. The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), through the Directorate-General for Roads, has awarded the Infrastructure, Water and Energy Group a contract worth 10.8 million euros to carry out noise abatement work on a seven-and-a-half kilometre stretch of the dual carriageway from kilometre point 46.150 to 53.820.

The work includes the installation of methacrylate acoustic protection screens from two to seven metres high along the route, as well as the laying of sound-absorbing road surface, the installation of safety barriers and the integration of the whole complex into the surrounding landscape. The work is scheduled to take 29 months. The screens will be placed on piles or on existing structures, depending on the terrain and characteristics of each area, in 3.5 kilometre sections.

Lantania will also carry out the milling of part of the dual carriageway and the tarmacking with sound-absorbent material. In total, three sections with a total length of just over two kilometres will be affected. Screens will also be installed on the access ramp to the city centre from Oviedo. The two solutions will be combined and the screens will be placed at the highest point of the route as it passes through the town centre of Mieres.

This intervention is part of the Recovery Plan that will allocate European NextGenerationEU funds for sustainability, energy efficiency and noise abatement on the National Road Network.

In Asturias, Lantania is completing the widening of the A-66 dual carriageway and the link roads between Lugones and Matalablima. The project, with a length of 4.39 kilometres, includes the widening of the dual carriageway by adding a third lane along the existing central reservation, preserving the platform and readjusting the transversal distribution of the dual carriageway and hard shoulders.
