Lantania makes progress in the works for the improvement of the N-232 road in Castellón

• The company executes a 20.7 million Euro contract to upgrade the section between Masía de la Torreta and Morella Sur
• The works are visited by the Government delegate in the Comunitat Valenciana, Pilar Bernabé

Madrid,15 October 2024. Lantania advances in the works of improvement and reorganisation of the N-232 road in Castellón. The Infrastructure, Water and Energy Group is executing a 20.7 million Euro contract (VAT included) from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MITMA) to carry out the works to upgrade the layout and rearrange the access points to the N-232 in the section between Masía de la Torreta and Morella Sur, with an intervention length on the main stretch of 4.85 km.

The Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, together with the head of the Demarcation of Roads in the Valencian Community, Guillermo Llopis, and the Mayor of Morella, Bernabé Sangüesa, visited the works today, accompanied by the General Director of Infrastructures and Building of Lantania, José Alberto Carrasco.

The new road layout has been designed for a design speed of 80 km/h with a conventional road section with two 3.50 m lanes and 1.50 m shoulders. The N-232 currently carries around 3,000 vehicles per day, 16% of which are heavy vehicles.

The section to be worked on runs from km 54.900 to km 60.210 and is the only one remaining to be upgraded along the entire N-232 road. It is characterised by a winding route since it runs through a rugged terrain at altitudes close to 1,000 m above sea level. Likewise, it has a cross section that does not exceed 6 m in width except in its final zone, which causes a decrease in visibility and functionality and, therefore, an impairment of road safety, aggravated by a multitude of access points present in the section. In addition to this, there are winter maintenance problems due to the elevations through which it runs. The refurbishment to be carried out by Lantania will address these issues, improving the conditions of functionality and road safety for the users of this road.

Among the works to be carried out is the construction of a new bridge over the Bergantes River, 22.60 meters wide between abutments. The existing bridge will be maintained as access to the adjacent roads. The works also include the construction of a total of 6.845 km of additional service roads to allow access to neighbouring properties, as well as the construction of three underpasses. In addition, Lantania will carry out the necessary environmental restoration and integration measures, including the installation of noise barriers.
