Lantania participates in the 8th Civil Engineering Week in Madrid – SICMA 2025

  • It showcases a representative module of the vertical garden built on the M-30 in Madrid at the exhibition space of the Plaza de Callao

Madrid, 23 May 2025. Lantania is participating in the 8th Civil Engineering Week in Madrid (SICMA 2025), held from 23 to 30 May. The Group’s infrastructure division is taking part in this event, which aims to bring civil engineering closer to the public and to highlight its role in the development of a more sustainable society.

In the exhibition space installed in the Plaza de Callao in the capital, Lantania Infraestructuras is showcasing a module representing the vertical garden built by the company, in a joint venture with Padecasa and Azul, on several walls of the M-30 motorway in Madrid.

This facility, built for the Madrid City Council’s Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility Department, has more than 3,000 m² and 115,000 plants of 23 different species that absorb pollutants. Located on the 400 metres of walls of the M-30 ring road, between the Mariano Salvador Maella and New Zealand roundabouts, it forms the largest vertical gardens in Europe.

Its design is based on a multi-layer system that allows plant species to be grown by means of controlled irrigation and without the need for soil, thus optimising the use of vertical space. In addition to beautifying urban walls, this vertical garden contributes to improving air quality, reducing noise pollution and mitigating the heat island effect. Thanks to integrated sensors, their environmental performance is monitored in real time, demonstrating how green infrastructure can be effectively integrated into the urban environment.

Civil Engineering Week in Madrid – SICMA 2025

Organised by the Association of Civil Engineers of Madrid, the Engineering Week has established itself as a benchmark for the dissemination of the key role played by civil engineering in the development of our cities and territories. Under the slogan ‘Driving sustainability’, this year’s edition focuses on innovation, energy efficiency and infrastructure improvement.

Through immersive experiences, models and technologies such as virtual reality, visitors will be able to see first-hand some of the most emblematic projects developed by the company in areas such as transport, water, energy and building.

SICMA 2025 will have an exhibition space open to the public and a full programme of activities, including guided tours, educational workshops for students and young people, as well as entertainment for all audiences. Admission is free, thanks to the support of more than 90 collaborating organisations, including Lantania.
