Lantania promotes education and research in water technologies in Morocco

• The company signs a collaboration agreement with Abdelmalek Essâdi University to foster the development os specialised talent, research and innovation

Madrid, 30 July 2026. Lantania Aguas and Abdelmalek Essaâdi University (UAE) have signed a collaboration agreement to promote education, research and employability in the field of water technologies. The partnership will strengthen cooperation between the university and the company through joint innovation initiatives and knowledge transfer.

The agreement was signed by Antonio Borrero, Business Development Director of Lantania Aguas and the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Tangier, Mustapha Diani, during a ceremony held on 28 July at the faculty’s premises.

The agreement provides for the development of specialised training programmes and technical seminars through the Lantania Chair: Water Engineering and Technology, established in collaboration with the University of Seville. It will also promote joint research projects in desalination, water treatment and water reuse, as well as knowledge exchange, technology transfer and participation in research, development and innovation (R&D&I) initiatives of mutual interest.

The agreement will facilitate the incorporation of undergraduate and recent graduate students from the university into the projects that Lantania is currently developing in Morocco through internship, mentoring and graduate recruitment programmes. In addition, the university will promote the company’s employment opportunities among its students and collaborate in the design of training programmes tailored to the needs of the water sector.

This initiative reflects the continued growth of Lantania Aguas’ operations in Morocco, where the company is currently constructing the M’rirt Drinking Water Treatment Plant and has previously completed the Salé Wastewater Treatment Plant, in addition to several projects for the OCP Group. Through its subsidiaries, Lantania Maroc and Soil Maroc, the company is strengthening its presence in this strategic market and reaffirming its commitment to the development of the country’s water infrastructure, in line with its international growth strategy.

The agreement forms part of the new growth phase of Lantania Aguas following the acquisition of a stake in the company by the Emirati organization NMDC Group. The expansion of the company’s activities in Morocco, as well as in other international markets, highlights the importance of collaborating with universities to support the education and development of highly qualified professionals in water technologies.

Abdelmalek Essaâdi University is one of the leading higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Morocco. It comprises 17 academic centres located across five cities—Tetouan, Tangier, Larache, Ksar El Kebir and Al Hoceima. The collaboration agreement will be coordinated by the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Tangier, a leading institution for scientific and technological education offering 13 Master of Science and Technology (MST) programmes and four engineering degree programmes.

The implementation of the agreement will be coordinated by Professor Fouad El Mansouri, from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Tangier, who will oversee the education and research initiatives included in the partnership. On behalf of Lantania Aguas, this responsibility will be assumed by Hicham El Bakouri, Regional Business Development and R&D Manager.

The agreement will remain in force for an initial period of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement. A joint steering committee will meet at least once a year to review the progress of the initiatives undertaken and identify new areas for collaboration.
