Lantania signs alliance with Cortizo to install recycled aluminium windows in its homes

  • The company will kit its residential projects out with carpentry made from Infinity aluminium billet

Madrid, 3 August 2023. Lantania is making progress in its efforts to decarbonise Spanish properties and its commitment to sustainability. The infrastructure, water and energy group has signed an agreement with the Galician multinational Cortizo to install windows made of 100% post-consumer recycled aluminium in its residential buildings. According to the European Aluminium Association (AEA), the installation of this type of sustainable carpentry will reduce CO2 emissions by 95% compared to those made with primary aluminium.

The alliance reached with Cortizo, a leading Spanish company in the design and manufacture of aluminium and PVC systems for architecture, will enable Lantania to kit its homes out with windows made from Infinity aluminium billet, a raw material produced in the Galician company’s smelting plants by recycling windows, doors, facades and railings that have reached the end of their useful life. The production of Infinity, verified by the independent Bureau Veritas, produces less than 0.5 kilograms of CO2 for every kilogram of aluminium produced. This figure, calculated according to ISO 14025 and EN15804 standards, means that it has one of the lowest carbon footprints on the market.

With this agreement, Lantania and Cortizo will be able to offer future owners homes built according to the principles of sustainable architecture, which not only take into account their comfort, but also focus on the materials used in their construction, opting for those that can be recovered and reused. In this sense, the commitment to aluminium, a metal that can be recycled an infinite number of times without losing any of its properties, is crucial.

With this alliance, Lantania and Cortizo are promoting their commitment to sustainable construction and the promotion of architecture that respects the environment and the planet. According to Lantania’s Purchasing Director, Ignacio Chacón, this alliance “places both companies in a prominent position among the companies that have the development and implementation of the latest advances in sustainability, the circular economy and carbon footprint reduction as one of their main strategic objectives”.

According to Cortizo’s General Director of Architecture, Daniel Lainz, he is “convinced” that the implementation of all the agents in the building sector will lead to “the creation of new homes that place energy efficiency and the circular economy at the heart of their design”.
