Lantania starts operation and maintenance of the San Jorge solar farm, the largest in Castellón

  • The plant built for Prosolia Energy by the company has obtained a Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC)

Madrid, 1 February 2024. Lantania has started the operation and maintenance of the San Jorge solar farm, the largest in the province of Castellón, built by the company for Prosolia Energy. The Infrastructure, Water and Energy Group has obtained a Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC) for the solar farm after successfully completing its operation and performance tests, meaning the two-year operation and maintenance period can begin. This video shows the entire construction process.

The San Jorge solar farm, located in the municipality of Bajo Maestrazgo, has a capacity of 23 megawatts (MWp) and its development has involved an investment of 13.5 million euros. Lantania undertook construction of the solar farm, including engineering and commissioning, and will maintain it for the next two years.

The construction of the San Jorge farm involved the installation of 42,600 solar panels. The facility has the capacity to supply around 38,000 MWh/year, which is equivalent to the consumption of 8,500 families. The clean energy generated by this facility will stop 10,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere per year, which is equivalent to planting 500,000 trees.

A team of approximately 120 people was involved in the construction of the new facility. During this process, sustainability policies were implemented, including the relocation of 4,200 olive trees and the repopulation of woodland vegetation around the perimeter of the site, so that the facility blends seamlessly into the surrounding natural environment. In addition, solar grazing will be used as a natural way to clean and clear the ground. A flock of 550 Assaf sheep will visit the facility every one to two months to clear vegetation, depending on its state.

Lantania Energy

The Energy division, which already accounts for nearly 30% of the Group’s order intake, is one of Lantania’s fastest-growing business areas. The company has 293 MW of solar installations under construction, in addition to the 400 MW of projects already under way throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Among the completed projects that are in their operation and maintenance phase are the Tordesillas (125 MW), Alcañiz (30 MW), Añover and Huecas (100 MW) and Torrijos (50 MW) solar farms.
