Lantania to build the largest solar plant in Castellón for Prosolia Energy

  • The facility, result of a €13.5 million investment, will have a capacity of 23 megawatts

Madrid, 24 March 2022. Lantania will build the San Jorge solar plant, the largest photovoltaic system planned to date in the province of Castellón. The project of the independent energy producer Prosolia Energy (“Prosolia”) has been awarded to the infrastructure, water and energy company to build a solar farm in the municipality of San Jorge, in the Bajo Maestrazgo region. Investment in the facility’s construction totals €13.5 million.

The contract covers the construction of the photovoltaic plant, including engineering, commissioning, and subsequent operation as well as its maintenance for two years. The renewable solution is included in Prosolia’s 63MW portfolio of utility-scale projects currently under construction, which will be implemented throughout the first half of 2022. This portfolio of renewable projects includes the San Jorge ground-mounted solar photovoltaic power plant and two other renewable solutions totalling 40MW in Portugal.

Prosolia Energy will invest more than €40 million in carrying out these renewable solutions, expanding a portfolio which includes rooftop and ground-mounted industrial self-supply projects, and consolidating its place in the market as an independent energy producer.

Prosolia will include this solar plant within its operating assets and will be assisted by Lantania for the plant´s engineering, commissioning and operation. The ground-mounted solar power plant will have a peak capacity of 23 megawatts (MW), 10 MW of which are included in the Renewable Energy Economic Regime which was awarded to Prosolia Energy in the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge´s first auction.

Lantania has already started work on the generation field, which is expected to be completed in one year. 42,600 solar panels will be installed over 28.5 hectares and will be capable of supplying some 38,000 MW/h per year, equivalent to the consumption of 8,500 families. The clean energy generated by the park will save the emission of 10,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year, the equivalent to planting 500,000 trees.
