Lantania to participate in the 7th Week of Civil Engineering in Madrid

  • Graphene additive for concrete developed together with Graphenea to be exhibited at Plaza de España Expo

Madrid, 1 March 2023. Lantania will participate in the 7th Week of Civil Engineering in Madrid (SICMA23), which will be held from 3rd-10th March under the slogan ‘Engineering Unites Us’. The Infrastructure, Water and Energy Group is part of this biennial outreach initiative aimed at disseminating the value and work of civil engineers.

SICMA is able to revert back to its face-to-face format and will feature a varied programme of free activities, such as a 350m2 exhibition space in Plaza de España, as well as visits to infrastructures and different workshops. Lantania will be present at this Expo presenting the graphene-based additive for concrete developed together with Graphenea and in collaboration with the School of Civil Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The exhibited piece will show the material, explain its development process in the laboratory and the on-site tests. The main benefit of this innovative cement and concrete additive is the significant improvement in durability, which enhances the sustainability of infrastructure built with it.

The Expo in Plaza de España proposes a ‘Journey through Civil Engineering’ in which the contribution of civil engineers to everyday life will be shown in a close and sensorial way with more than 20 exhibits. Through an immersive experience, virtual reality, simulators and models, it will be possible to learn about and experience with all the senses, different areas of civil engineering, such as mobility, energy, ports, innovative materials or structures.

Among the events scheduled for this Engineering Week, there is also a circuit of free visits to relevant infrastructures, control centres and construction sites. Furthermore, there are recreational activities for all audiences and demonstrative workshops for students.
