Lantania to participate in the IDA Seville Summit on Water and Climate Change

• The event will address the integration of non-conventional resources to ensure long-term eatrer security

Madrid, 11 October 2023. Lantania will participate in the Water and Climate Change Summit organised by the International Desalination Association (IDA), which will be held in Seville from 15-18 October. The infrastructure, water and energy Group is one of the sponsors of the event, which will bring together more than 350 water and desalination experts, including the company’s specialists, in the Andalusian capital.

The meeting will combine high-level themed sessions and a peer-reviewed technical programme. Lantania’s General Manager of Water, Pedro Almagro, will be responsible for opening the final day of the Summit, which will be held at La Hacienda La Soledad. Lantania’s Technical Director of Desalination, Juan García Millán, will deliver one of the technical sessions with a presentation on ‘Desalination and renewable energy sources. Efficient designs for the world’s largest reverse osmosis plants’.

Coinciding with its 50th anniversary, IDA is holding a Summit in Seville on climate change adaptation, which will address, among other things, the synergies between mitigation and adaptation, the integration of non-conventional water resources such as desalination and water reuse to ensure long-term water security, the decarbonisation of the water sector and water resources management.

IDA is an NGO in consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC and a member of the United Nations Special Framework for Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG). This organisation promotes non-conventional water resource solutions to address water scarcity and improve resilience, long-term water security and climate change adaptation.

Lantania and desalination

Lantania undertakes the design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of desalination plants worldwide. It provides efficient solutions based on innovative, sustainable technologies that respect the environment where they are located, solving the problems of water scarcity in areas with a water deficit. The company has built desalination plants capable of treating a total of 645,000 m³/day.

Lantania’s projects include the Jubail 3 A desalination plant in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest reverse osmosis seawater desalination plants in the world. Jubail 3A will produce drinking water for a population equivalent to 1,600,000 people, thus ensuring supply to the Eastern, Riyadh and Oassim provinces.
