Electrical traction substation in Taradell (Barcelona)

This new facility, which is part of the plan to improve the electrification system for Rodalies of Catalonia’s railway network, has increased and ensured optimal electrical supply to the trains in this stretch of the Barcelona-Vic-Puigcerdà (R3) line as they pass through the region of Osona in the province of Barcelona.

The traction substation has been built on land belonging to an old train stop in Taradell, located in an agricultural area.

The work that Lantania carried out included executing the civil work, and the supply, installation, and commissioning of the electrical equipment for two high-voltage connections (25 kV), as well as the equipment for the transformers, rectifiers, feeders, the catenary system power supply, and the security installations. The construction work also encompassed the implementation of the control and protection system, and its integration into Barcelona’s Remote Energy Control System.

Important magnitudes:

–    13 36 kV SF6 insulated cabins.

–    Two rectifier groups (3,300 kVA).

–    DC cells for two groups and six feeders.

–    Signal booths (2.2 kV) with 90 kVA transformer.

–    Feeders array for six exits and a bypass.

–    Auxiliary systems, remote control and protections.
